We often think a goal is too large and so we don’t even begin. We hope to wake up and ‘feel like it’ or we hope to wake up and ‘have the compulsion spontaneously removed’.
Waiting for a miracle isn’t a strategy. The miracle happens while you’re doing the work.
How can we approach a large goal like long-term sobriety or being a published author? Can you try it a new way? Can you go into the large goal through the side door? Yes, in an easier way. (Especially when our head wants the goal without asking for help, or without asking anyone else how they did it…). We don’t want to do the steps that are required to get the goal that we want. And our addiction LOVES this, loves it when you wait, loves it when you don’t reach out, loves it when you don’t begin because the goal seems too large.
Not you. You’re here. You’re ready to try different.
[I also talk about weight loss, and how it get confused with the goal of being sober, right around the 30 minute mark.]
