Sober Podcast 409 - Q&A (shame, sleep, and Gabor Mate)
In this episode, I read some emails from lurkers, and there are common questions and concerns that come up. Here are some bits you’ll hear:
- “I just want to be sober and never think about it again”
- “I can’t get a grip on my head or my sobriety”
- “How to deal with the guilt and shame of over-drinking behaviour”
- “How do you make sober friends in real life”
I also mention tips on how to sleep better at about the 14 minute mark in the edited version.
And then right after I talk about sleep, I begin calmly (and then, not so much) to discuss how I disagree with Gabor Maté when he states that addiction is a response to trauma … (well, to be fair, I mention what he is leaving OUT in that statement). And then I do officially start ranting: You’re Not Addicted To Asparagus! When listening, you’ll remember that I am not a doctor. But I have worked one-on-one with 3000 people and I quit drinking myself, and Dr. Maté has not… :) He's a genius doctor. I am a writer and sober coach. You'll remember that while listening!
