As an overdrinker, we used to be looking for two things: a dopamine rush AND the way to turn off our heads. In this audio, I call it the UP-UP-DOWN-DOWN rollercoaster of over-drinking.

Sometimes we used to have too many UPs and then we pour alcohol on our head as a way of trying to feel better. When really, if we did fewer of the windy-uppy things, then we might not need the rest of what comes after.

the truth is that we’re so used to doing too much, volunteering for things, working many hours and then working more, leaving things slightly too late, checking our phone in the middle of the night, driving our car without enough gas in it ... we're so used to it, that to give it up feels weird. and calm. and borderline-boring.

when really the thing we call 'boredom' is often just the absence of chaos …
